Nord Stream II is a system of off-shore natural gas pipelines that go from Russia to Germany under the Baltic Sea.
The importance of this pipeline lies in the supply of natural gas from Russia to Germany (and Western Europe) directly and get around Ukraine. This pipeline will strengthen the influence of Russia and weaken the position of Ukraine as an important transit point for natural resources from Russia.
Germany strongly prefers the finalization of Nord Stream II, but central European countries as Poland and Slovakia together with the USA are against it.
The plan is to complete Nord Stream II in the second half of 2022. Though, the political opposition can delay the project by many years.
